Heart Throbs of The West: Vol 9; Ogdens First Martial or Military Band was organized in Ogden by Richard DeMont Sprague with the following: Richard De Mont Sprague, leader; Martin Harris, Oath Stephens, Joseph Harris, Frank Calvin Fifes, Eli Tracy, Orson Drake, Drum, Fred Garner, Drum; A little later, John Boyle, John McQuarrie, Ephraim Nye, Hyrum Wright & William Payne (son-in-law to Orson),became members. On Saturday afternoons the members of the band gathered at the tithing office, located on the northwest corner of Main (Washington Blvd.) & 24th St. for practice. The fife, used by Martin Harris, is now the property of the Weber Co. Chapter of the daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
