Source 1. Chauncy was with Company K. 14th Iowa Infantry, a private;; Dot has picture of him in his Civil War uniform; My aunt Edna, wife of George Burnham, brother to my father, tells the story of Chauncy and how he ran away from home 3 times to join the Confederate Army. Each time his father, at the pursuasing of his mother, went after him and brought him back. On the thrid attempt, his father said. If he wants to join that much, we will leg him go.
Chauncy was killed at the Battle of Shilo a few months later; I have a picture of Chauncy in his Confederate Army uniform in my album of old family pictures.

Source 2: History of Louisa County, Iowa: Book: 977.7926 H25 Chauncy enlisted in Louisa Co., Iowa; The Iowa soldiers bore an honorable and conspicious part in the suppression of the rebellion, and those from Louisa County, while claiming no superior merit over their comrades in arsm from other counties in the state, can truthfully claim to ahve done their full share.
